Diversity is truly lacking in the North American film and television industry. When you look at the majority of projects being developed by studios/networks, the characters being portrayed are mainly Caucasian. This is a major problem. There are so many talented actors of color who never get an opportunity to showcase their abilities. When opportunities do arise, the roles handed down are very small or stereotypical. The root of the problem are the writers, casting directors, but more importantly, the executives in charge. It is said that the American film and television industry is racist. Well, the Canadian film and television industry shares that statement. Children, teens, and adults of color across north America are hungry for diversity and want to be able to see themselves portrayed correctly. The system needs to change and the change starts here.
